A lot of people ask me what I mean with this work. What is the concept and if there is any social meaning behind it. I say: „No, there is no concept“. The reason I always say it is because the concept can be very obvious and also, it is quite hard to talk about it. Not because it is an important concept or something huge. It is just because it is simple and speaks for itself. The concept could be a lot of things: individuality, personality, moralism, psychology, beauty standards, etc. Clearly there is a lot of meaning behind it. But I rather say: no, there is no social meaning, no concept, no nothing. Those are just drawings I put on the city walls. I always say: „It doesn‘t have to mean something, but if the drawing means something to you, so it means something. If it means nothing, so means nothing.“ Some people see it and laugh. Some people pass by and just look at it. Some people don‘t get it, others perhaps think about something. Anyway, I don‘t know what is on people‘s mind.

We could also talk about “acceptance“ as a concept. I can give some examples to start the conversation. When a person has too much money, the money doesn‘t matter anymore. Or when the person lives in poverty, the poor life doesn‘t matter anymore. When the person is too ugly, the ugliness doesn‘t matter anymore. Everything works in this way. If the person is really fat: “ Fuck it. I‘m fat“. It works also if you are really sick, nothing to do about it, you accept it. Everything that goes beyond the limit, we just accept it because, in some cases, there is nothing else to do to change it. It‘s like: “Yes, I am gay.“, “ Yes, I am ugly.“... and so on. Probably they don‘t care anymore how ugly, fat, gay, strange they are.

Imagine how is the life of this person. People talk a lot about each other, probably people who live around those kind of people, talk a lot of things about them all the time. So... they probably say „Fuck it!“ for everyone. „It doesn‘t matter“. Probably they also have a lot of positive thinking and self confidence, much more than anyone.

I don‘t know someone that is so weird like those in the drawings. I do know some „almost“ weird people, but not so nicely weird as those. So, I shouldn‘t try to talk about what they feel if I‘m not like them. I don‘t think I can 100% understand how it is to be so weird because I‘m very normal, as most people are. At least I think so...

When we see a weird person passing by, we all look, talk, want to take pictures and laugh about them. We always have to say something about the weird person we see. You look at a transvestite or a weird gay man/woman walking around, you think: “ WTF??“ In the first moment there is nothing else to say. And he/she is there... quite normal, passing by as a live freak show for the normal people. Then you see a very fat woman around and say: “ WTF??? Look how fat she is!“ It‘s normal to think this. It‘s almost involuntary. For ‘normal’ people, this is really bad, being fat, being so gay, being so ugly. Nobody wants to be fat, ugly. Also, nobody wants to show the deep frustrations and secrets we all have inside of us. For those people all of it doesn‘t seem to be a big deal.

They are out of the beauty standards. They are out of any kind of social standards that are important for most of us. “ Normal people“ (as we call ourselves) usually care too much if they are a little bit fat or not too strong, if the nose is too big, if they are too short or something else. Most people are worried about looking good, some of them seem to worry about “being perfect“ as in magazines. I think we all should say: “ WTF?“ just like we say to those we think are weird. And what do the “weird-ugly ones“ think about us, the „normal ones“ ? We have to ask them, I guess. It seems we come from different universes because we really divide ourselves in ugly world and pretty world. At the end we all have to accept the way we are because there is no way to change our face or body. At least, we can‘t change everything. But we always try to look better, very nice, very cool... and... “so what? “... prettiness can also be very weird and fake.

Even if we think that people who inspired those drawings are nice, because they accept the way they are, they don‘t care. Alright, we might think “good for them“, but we (normal ones) still want to look good. Nobody wants to be like them. So it is... perhaps the weird ones are just crazy, they are beyond the limits, or it‘s drugs problems, mental problems, whatever we think about them. They are still weird. Beauty is still beauty. Social matters are still social matters. It won‘t change so soon.

I don‘t want to get really into these matters, the social meanings and concepts of beauty because I‘m not trying to question anything with this work. There are a lot of meanings that we could talk about, but no... let‘s just keep the humor side.

Those are drawings from real photos, nothing comes from my imagination, but as I said: Drawings. When the picture is converted into a drawing, it‘s different. It‘s cartoon, it‘s funny, it‘s light and it‘s colourful. All concepts and social meanings are up to you if you want to talk about them or think about them. I just think that those pictures have a very good potential to become nice cartoon characters. That‘s my point of view and, at the moment, this is what I want to do about it.
